Mr. Blair Stein July 18,1942 OFFICE MANAGER Mrs. Elsbeth H. Vaughan I May we call your attention to the manner in which an important telegram recently sent by the Volunteer Nurse's Aide office was handled by the Postàl Telegraph Company. On July 10, a wire was sent over my signature to Ida Mildred MacDonald, 815 Essex Street, S.E., Minneapolis, Minnesota. This wire asked Miss MacDonald to come to Washington 3 days later for an important interview. When no reply came from Miss MacDonald it became necessary for us to call her long distance. Wie learned from her that she had not received the wire. We have been in touch with the Red Cross Telegraph and Teletype Office here at Headquarters and they in turn have been endeavoring to get a report from Postal Telegraph Company, but with no success. Miss MacDonald endeavored to get some report on the wire in Minneapolis and could get no report from the company. We feel that this matter should be brought to the attention of the Postal Telegraph Company and we should insist on receiving from them some reason for their failure to deliver the wire and to report to us that they were unable to deliver it. Miss MacDonald has been in Washington yesterday and today and she tells us that an earlier wire sent to her on July 7 was delivered without any difficulty and that on the evening of the 10th, when the wire in question should have been delivered, she was at home all evening; also that she is listed in the telephone book in Minneapolis and there could be no legitimate reason for the company's failure to deliver the wire. May we please know the result of your inquiry with the Postal Telegraph Company? Mrs. Elsbeth H. Vaughan Associate Director Volunteer Nurse's Aide Corps. I is 5 U 3
