My dear Miss MacDougald:
We have had word that transportation may be available at short notice
and have, therefore, wired you to be on the alert. I am enclosing an advance
of $250 to meet the expenses of your travel. You should have this converted
into express checks at once. We hope you esn make arrangements with your
employer to be released on short notice.
In e se you receive word from us via wire to report at the port of em-
barkation, the wire will indicate the following:
City to which to report (San Francisco probably, wire will indicate)
Hotel to which you are to go.
Time you should reach city indicated.
You should follow the procedure indicated below.
1. Make arrengements for your transportation to the coast. If air
travel is authorized, wire will indicate this. You may have
difficulty in obtaining space even when you show Red Cross
identification and telegram.
2. Wire to Miss Gladyee Badger, Director, Nursing Service, Red Cross
Headquarters, Civic auditorium, San Francisco, giving your of
arrival in San Francisco.
3. Wire some information to this office.
4. On reaching San Francisco, check in at hotel which will be
indicated in our telegram and phone Miss Badger reporting your
arrival.
Miss Margaret Tracy, who went with the first group, has just roturned to
this country and we are enclosing further information regurding the permanent
set-up of the Unit. We are glad to be able to call your attention to the fact

that this gives you an advantage in salary.
