Dear Miss Madley:
Unless we can get just the right house mother we shall not
send anyone now, but I am still hopeful that just the right one will go
with Miss Olson and the others. I think of you every day, and eagerly
read all the news about all of you. We are sending you a picture of
Mrs. Breckinridge, and one of me too. I am very proud to have mine hang
in the Headquarters of the Harvard-Red Cross Unit, and I know Mrs.
Breckinridge would be too.
Miss McGill seems to be in good condition now, but certainly
it was just good sense to have her come home. For her own sake it was a
preventive measure that may be of the utmost importance to her.
I just can't believe the miracle of Miss Jurewicz and Miss
Somerville. Please tell them how very, very thankfull we are for their
safety and that they are an active part of the nursing group. Having
been so intimately with the four who returned from the other boat, I
find it hard to believe that these can be so able to take part in the
work of the Unit.
My love to all and a special message for Elisabeth Phil-
lips and yourself. We shall miss Alice Olson very much when she goes,
but how glad you will all be to have her there.
Sincerely,
Mary Beard
