AMERICAN RED CROSS-HARVARD FIELD HOSPITAL UNIT
(3)
M. Tifft - for the first few months while we were getting the hospital
worked in the Accountant's office. Shortly after starting her nursing
duties she injured her foot and has done practically no nursing.
She
has had two operations and in between has done some office work.
I
doubt if she will be able to do any more nursing here.
I am going to
have Doctor Taylor Young, an English surgeon who has done our surgery
for us give me a statement so that I can send it to you.
We have been very busy for the past few months.
A. Geekie will write to Washington as advised.
I have
enclosed
her
efficiency
report
up
to
date.

You
As married nurses are now being accepted for foreigh service, I
see no alternative but to agree with your policy.
When Miss Olson leaves later in the year, Miss Peterson
will step into her place and salary adjustment should I think take
place then. I would think that Miss Peterson should receive what
Miss Olson would have received at the beginning of her second year.
Since Frances Madley receives the same as Miss Peterson there
will be no change other than the 10% raise for a second year. At the
present my plan is for the head nurses to have a rotating service,
morning, afternoon and night duties.
If a suitable person is found that wants to do permanent night
duty, her salary should be that agreed upon for a Night Supervisor,
but I would prefer to recommend such an appointment only after I have had
an opportunity to observe. Miss Westerman has done permanent after-
noon duty 4 - 12 all along at her request, after she had done a few weeks
of it.
I have a few nurses who have helped with the Supervision
this far.
After I have talked with them about future plans, and if they
are agreeable, I will submit their names for salary adjustments.
Kindest regards,
Sincerely yours,
Miss Gertrude Madley,
GM:IM
Chief Nurse.
