Dear Mr. Bishoff:
It is with great pleasure that we join with you in honoring Mrs. Anne F.
Mahoney for the many services she has provided our community. She has been
of invaluable assistance to the Richmond City Health Department in recruiting
volunteers for our regular work as well as for our special health campaigns.
One of her most valuable contributions has been her recruiting and or-
ganizing volunteers for work in our immunization clinics. This encompassed
the period of our Immunization Project, when she provided a corps of volun-
teers for three special clinics each week, to the present night immunization
clinic at the Southside Center. Our recent endeavor to eradicate measles,
"Measles Sunday, was aided immeasurably, as she staffed with her volunteers
clinics which immunized over 11,977 children.
Each year the President designates a "Community Health Week" During
1968, the City Health Department participated by placing trailers in a down-
town area, offering free x-rays and blood tests to the public. Mrs. Mahoney
recruited and assisted with the training of volunteers who manned these
trailers. Additionally, she recruited volunteers who worked in the Work Per-
mit Clinics which operated during the summer for teenage children. The Work
Permit Clinics provided an excellent opportunity for many of the youngsters
of the City to be occupied during the summer months and to gain some concep-
tion of their future.
The Bureau of Public Health Nursing could never have carried out these
programs without the assistance of Mrs. Mahoney and her volunteers. We are
most thankful. The Bureau is proud that such a friend is a member of the
Board of Visitors of the Health Sciences Division, Virginia Commonwealth
University.
During her years as Director of Nursing Programs, Richmond Chapter,
American Red Cross, she has been an inspiration to all. Her ability to work
