She has been\nof invaluable assistance to the Richmond City Health Department in recruiting\nvolunteers for our regular work as well as for our special health campaigns.\nOne of her most valuable contributions has been her recruiting and or-\nganizing volunteers for work in our immunization clinics. This encompassed\nthe period of our Immunization Project, when she provided a corps of volun-\nteers for three special clinics each week, to the present night immunization\nclinic at the Southside Center. Our recent endeavor to eradicate measles,\n\"Measles Sunday, was aided immeasurably, as she staffed with her volunteers\nclinics which immunized over 11,977 children.\nEach year the President designates a \"Community Health Week\" During\n1968, the City Health Department participated by placing trailers in a down-\ntown area, offering free x-rays and blood tests to the public. Mrs. Mahoney\nrecruited and assisted with the training of volunteers who manned these\ntrailers. Additionally, she recruited volunteers who worked in the Work Per-\nmit Clinics which operated during the summer for teenage children. The Work\nPermit Clinics provided an excellent opportunity for many of the youngsters\nof the City to be occupied during the summer months and to gain some concep-\ntion of their future.\nThe Bureau of Public Health Nursing could never have carried out these\nprograms without the assistance of Mrs. Mahoney and her volunteers. We are\nmost thankful. The Bureau is proud that such a friend is a member of the\nBoard of Visitors of the Health Sciences Division, Virginia Commonwealth\nUniversity.\nDuring her years as Director of Nursing Programs, Richmond Chapter,\nAmerican Red Cross, she has been an inspiration to all.
