Miss Ruth Marion Martin,
2760 Devonshire Place, N.W.,
Tashington, D. C.
My dear Miss Martin:
We are pleased to tell you that your x-ray report has been approved
by Harvard Medical School and we have received a satisfactory report of
your final physical examination.
Please check when you receive your uniforms for - 6 white uniforas
with short sleeves, detachable belt and buttons, emblem on left sleeve
(American Red Cross -- Nursing); street uniforas - Red Cross Pin on each
shoulder of short coat, two A.R.C. pins on the collar of short and topcoat,
emblem on left sleeve of each cout midway between shoulder and elbow (American
Red Cross - Harvard Unit). Clamp your bronze A.R.C. pins so that they do not
become unhooked and lost. If there are any minor alterations to be made after
you receive the street uniform, have your lodal tailor take care of it. for
any major alteration your suit will have to be returned to the tailor in New
Youk.
We have decided to wear white shirt blouses with a black four-in-hand
tie, to be supplied by the nurse. Three with long sleeves are required. If
you have any with short sleeves bring tham along. A blouse with a convortible
collar serves a double purpose - takes the tie well and can be left open in
summer. If you have a steamer rug, you will find it very useful and it can
be strapped to the outside of your luggage. A good suggestion is to have
some kind of purse or container that can be attached to your person to carry
your money and passport.
Enclosed you will rind rules and regulations for obtsining passports.
You will note from these regulations that you should present yourself before
a cleric of your local U.S. District Court, unless an Agent of the Department
of State is located near you. You should take with you the enclosed letter
of appointment, two photographs and, in addition, evidence of your American
citizenship, and apply for a passport. when you have your pictures taken,
have twolve prints made, two for your passport, one we should like to have
for your record here at National Headquarters and the remaining nine for use
in Ingland. The fee of $10.00 and also the cost of the trip to the port of
embarkation will be reimbursed.
