Miss Martin:
-2-
We are writing to the State Department, supporting your application
and requesting that the passport be sent to us so that we may obtain a
British visa for you, after which we will return the passport to you.
In addition to the information that we are asking you to submit on the
enclosed form, 615 A, we should like to have the following relationship of
NI
your nearest relative and the name and address of the person or bank to which
you wish to have your salary paid while jou are in England. Salaries will be
a
paid the first of the month automatically in America. These will be less de-
ductions on a drawing account for personal expenses in England. Your family
will be notified of your arrival there and it is the present intention of
National Headquarters to issue all pertinent news releases to them. Mail may
be sent to the American Red Cross Headquarters, London, England. It will be
forwarded to us from there.
Will you submit on the enclosed expense voucher with receipted bills the
cost of your immunization and x-ray and also passport fee and cost of passport
pictures so that you may be reimbursed. Enclosed you will rind instructions
regarding payment of salary, etc. We would appreciate an early return of
these forms and information requested.
For your interest, I am going to ask for 5 Pouncs per month for personal
expenses in England. I feel that this sum together with what I take with me
will be ample.
Regarding luggage, if you have two pullman size suit cases, you should
be able to get all your things in. However, mine are smaller, so I am going
to take a week-end bag as well.
Do not take cameras.
May we have a formal acceptance of the appointment from you.
Sincerely yours,
Gertrude Madley,
Chief Nurse,
American Red Cross-
Harvard Hospital Unit.
