Miss Gertrude S. Banfield,
Assistant Director Nursing Service,
National Headquarters, American Red Cross,
Washington, D. 0.
My Dear Miss Banfield:
Receipt is acknowledged of your letter of May 22, 1942,
in which you request a Military Quard of Honor for participation in
a Memorial Service at the grave of Miss Anna C. Maxwell in Arlington
National Cemetery at 3:00 p. me, Sunday, May 31, 1942.
I have been directed to advise you that it has not been
the policy of this headquarters to provide Military Honors for ser-
vices at the graves of individuals in Arlington National Cemetery
unless the service is sponsored by a War Department Agency.
For your information the Chief of the Army Nurse Corps
might be asked to sponsor your service and to ask for the Military
Honors desired. Such a request would receive favorable consideration.
Sincerely yours,
ALBERT C. BATY,
Captain, 703rd M. P. Bn. (ZI),
Ass't. Adjutant General.
