Harsh\nSupervisor, Veterans Division\nSan Diego Chapter\nAmerican Red Cross\n533 Union Building\nSan Diego 1, California\nMy dear Mrs. Harsh:\nYour letter regarding Alice Rita McCalla, a\ngraduate registered nurse who served with the Red Cross in\nWorld War I, has been referred to me for reply.\nAccording to Miss McCalla's folder she served\noverseas with the Siberian Commission of the American Red Cross\nfrom May 6 to September 10, 1919. Apparently Miss McCalla was\nnot inducted into the Army as many of the Red Cross nurses were\nat that time. She seems to have served with the Red Cross and\ntherefore is not entitled to the benefits from the Veterans'\nAdministration provided for nurses who were inducted into\nmilitary service.\nUnfortunately the Red Cross has no provision for\npensions or other compensations for Red Cross personnel of World\nWar I.
