Dear Mrs. McManus:
The people of the world need forward-looking leader-
and those who have given we are
ship, applaud and when we in turn have the leadership, opportunity I to think recognize
privileged and honored. This is how 1 felt in Philadelphia,
when our Chairman Mr. Harriman presented the Florence
Nightingale Award to you. I was very happy to be present
at that meeting. and I am sure that I speak for all our dele-
t
gates in saying so.
Your record of service to humanity is most commend-
able. Without people like yourself, who create new programs
to
and travel the world over to help others, humanitarian ideals
e
such as those of the International Committee of the Red Cross
would never be realized in practical action.
May I offer my most sincere congratulations to you
for your achievements, and for the honor bestowed upon you.
I'm sure we have not heard the end of your service to
humanity.
With warm regard,
Sincerely,
SIGNED: ALFRED M. GRUENTHER
