General Eumons, the Commanding Officer in Hawaii, has reconfirmed to the Adjutant General's office the urgent need of the services of 75 Red Cross nurses for civilian hospital duty in Honolulu. Furthermore, General Emmons the nurses be sent to Honolulu at the earliest possibleodate. llowevirgithe demands for all types of personnel and supplies in Hawaii and in order to assure provision of same in the order of their relative importance, the War Department and General Emmons have established definite priorities for all personnel and supplies. At present, due to the fact that certain supplies and personnel are considered to be more essential to the war effort than the the Wer Department is unable to give the American Red Cross any definite assurance as to when transportation will be provided for the nurses. There is, therefore, an unquestionable need and we must meet it when an opportunity for transportation can be found. Because this must remain indefinite, I am writing to ask whether you can remain on the reserve list for this unit. We would hope to be able to give at least 10 days notice of the date on which transportation is obtained. You would, of course, be free to withdrow if now or at a later date you feel that it is impossible for you to remain on the list for the unit. Ne should be kept informed of any change in address or of any condition which would interfere with your availability. Even though you are willing to continue on the reserve list for the unit, it seems best to asic that you return the money, cape, caps and insignia, identification carda and travel regulations (ARC 508) which have been advanced to you. (See attached outline of procedure for this.) 8
