SPECIAL DELIVERY
Miss Helen Aldine licNutt
613 Park
airmail
Willard, Ohio
My dear Miss McNutts
The American Red Cross has been asked to recruit nurses for
two emergency hospitals in Hawaii and we have had word of your interest
in service of this kind.
I have just sent you a telegram stating:
ABLE TO OFFER YOU APPOINTMENT HOSPITAL GENERAL STAFF DUTY
HAWAII PENDING SATISFACTORY PHYSICAL REPORT PLEASE WIRE
TENTATIVE ACCEPTANCE IF INTERESTED SENDING INFORMATION
AND FORMS UNIT PROBABLY LEAVE NEXT WEEK
I am enclosing general information on the assignment and the
following forms which, if you are interested, should be filled out
and returned as quickly as possible to this office:
1. Physical examination report.
2. Application form.
The report of your physical examination will, of course, have a great
deal to do with your acceptance for the assignment and we expect that
that you will have a thorough examination, as a foreign assignment would
be unwise unless youl physical condition is excellent. Please take the
responsibility for impressing your physician with this fact. Select your
own physician and inform him that the Red Cross is prepared to pay for
your examination, not to exceed five dollars ($5.00). His bill should be
submitted to this office, in care of the Nursing Service. Note the re-
quired immunization. Tetanus toxoid is also required but can be arranged
when we notify you that you have been definitely accepted. Your teeth
should be in good condition so that it will not be likely that you will
need dental work.
The assignment which we are offering you is for general staff duty.
It is probable the the unit will leave next week but we would send
you further information on this as soon as we are able to state the time
more definitely. It is, therefore, necessary to select for assignment
