Dear Miss McNutt:
It is always nice to hear from our Red Cross nurses
who served in the Hawaii Unit and to know their whereabouts.
We will note the current address on your record.
You were employed by the American National Red Cross
June 13, 1942 and assigned to the Hawaii Unit (Sacred Hearts
Hospital). On October 1, 1942 the Red Cross Hawaii Unit was
transferröd to the Emergency Medical and Hospital Service of
the Territorial Office of Civil Defense in the Territory of
Hawaii. You were released from Red Cross employment on
September 30, 1942 and were employed by the Office of Civil
Defense on October 1, 1942. It is our understanding that the
nurses employed in this unit by OCD were given the status of
emergency federal employees. Our records do not indicate the
date you were released from the OCD assignment. Your name is
recorded on a list of nurses on duty at Sacred Hearts Hospital
June 1, 1944.
In the event that the Federal Record Center in St. Louis,
Missouri does not have your service with the Hawaii Unit listed,
we suggest you clear with the State Department of Public Health,
Honolulu.
We hope this information will assist you in adding two
additional years of service to your retirement.
