Miss Clara D. Noyes,

Director, Nursing Service,

American Red Cross,
Washington, D. C.
My dear Miss Noyes:
In reply to your letter regarding Miss Nora Melton,
I am enclosing herewith statement of Miss Melton's service.
I ascertain that Miss Melton had no trouble with otitis
media or sinus prior to her work with the Red Cross in
Europe. She, as far as I know, and in accordance with her
physical examination, was a perfectly strong and healthy
woman until her Red Cross service. She returned home a
physical wreck, as did both Miss Barton and Miss Jennings,
who were also members of my original unit and who also are
in need of assistance and deserve it as their disability
dated from the time of their Red Cross service.
I very much hope that the Red Cross will do something
for Miss Melton, if it is only to get her the kind of work
she can do. She is anxious to work if it is possible for
her to do so, but certainly one thing stands out and that is
that her present disability is the result of her Red Cross
servicè in Europe.
Very truly yours,
^
