General Frank T. Hines,

Director, U.S. Veterans Bureau,
Washington, D.C.

My dear General Hines:
May I ask your personal consideration of the case of
Miss Nora F. Melton who has been employed by the Veterans' Bureau
as a nurse in the Vashington Sub-district Office and who, I under-
stand, is to be released mainly on the ground that she has no Army
discharge.
Niss Mel: ton served 8.8 one of the Red Cross nurses in the
very important and trying Service de Sante in France. That Service,
as you know, EES kept detached from the Any in order that immediate
response could be made to emergency calls for nurses in hospitals
at the front where wounded American nen required attention. Mise
with thorough loyalty and gave her best. She incurred
the disability in this service which has someuhat impoired her hear-
ing but which, I am informed, has not handicapped her service to the
Veterans' Bureau. In the sense that she served wounded men and gave
her best, she is as truly an ex-service nurse as any who have been
in the Army centonment hoapitala in this country and abroed.
I trust that these considerations will enable you to con-
tinue Nies Melton in the employ of the Bureau in Tashington where
her aged father now lives.
Cordially yours,
Cheirman.
