    "ocrText": "3/25/35\nLUCY MINNIGERODE\nLucy Minnigerode, Supt. of Nurses of the U. S. Public Health Service, died\nSunday morning, March 24, at Vauxcleuse, Seminary Hill, Alexandria, Virginia - the\nresidence of her niece, Mrs. Andrews.\nShe was in her office as usual Saturday morning then lunched with friends\nand drove out to her country home in the early afternoon. While working in her garden\nshe suffered a stroke of apoplexy and was carried to the residence of Mrs. Andrews.\nServices were held at Vauxcleuse Monday afternoon and the interment was in the family\nplot at Middleburg, Virginia.\nActive in local nursing work as well as national, Miss Minnigerode served as\nchairman of the local committee on Red Cross Nursing Service from 1931, was a member of\nthe Nursing Activities Committee of the District of Columbia Chapter, American Red Cross.\nShe was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Graduate Nurses' Association and\na past chairman of the Publications and Press Committee.\nMiss Minnigerode had a distinguished record. She was enrolled as a Red Cross\nnurse in April 1911, the appointment card - No. 1418 - carrying Miss Delano's signature.\nHer service in the Red Cross began in 1914 when she sailed on the Red Cross relief ship,\nRed Cross,\nas supervising nurse of the Russian unit. Miss Minnigerode spent a year at Kie\nwhere 600 nurses were under her supervision. Whilenat KieV she was decorated by the\nCzar with the Cross of St. Anne.\nIn August 1917 Miss Minnigerode was appointed to the staff of the Department\nof Nursing at Red Cross headquarters, in charge of nursing personnel for special overseas\nduty. During the influenza epidemic of 1918, she organized the nursing personnel of\nspecial emergency hospitals under the auspices of the U. S. Public Health Service and\nlocal boards of health, with the cooperation of the American Red Cross.\nImmediately following this work the Red Cross recommended that Miss Minnigerode\nmake a tour of inspection of the hospitals of the U. S. Public Health Service in order"
