Form No. 222
THE AMERICAN RED CROSS
NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS
WASHINGTON, D.C.
INTER-OFFICE LETTER
To
Mr. George E. Scott, General Manager. Date Jan. 10, 1919.
From
Miss Clara D. Noyes.
Subject
Some weeks ago Surgeon General Blue asked
the Department of Nursing to appoint a nurse as in-
spector of the Marine Hospitals. In view of the fact
that we have been providing nurses for these institu-
tions we felt very anxious to do this, in order that
we might secure uniformity and improve the standard
of nursing care of the sick in these hospitals. I
think Miss Delano spoke to you about this before she
left.
We engaged Miss Minnigerode, who had pre-
viously been in charge of the preparation of nursing
personnel for overseas duty at Red Cross Headquarters,
for this purpose.
I find that Miss Delano made no recommenda-
tion concerning the salary of Miss Minnigerode. Upon
investigation I find that the United States Public
Health Service pays its' nurse inspector of the Sanitary
Zönes twenty-four hundred dollars per year, with ex-
penses. In as much as this was the case, I felt that
the Red Cross should pay a Red Cross inspector who was
doing the same type of work the same salary. I, there-
fore, placed Miss Minnigerode's name on our payroll at
twenty -four hundred dollars per year. I trust that you
will approve of this appointment.
Clara Drought
Acting Director, Department of Nursing.
