AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS
Northwestern Division Inter-Office Letter
Seattle, Wash.,
Miss Clara D. Noyes, Director Department
May 25, 1921.
To
of Nursing, National Headquarters, Washington, D.C.
From
Grace Harrington, Director Department of
Nursing, Nor thwestern Division.
Subject
Elizabeth Gertrude Wilson.
The attached letter, of which I have kept a copy, just came this
morning from Miss Wilson." As I stated before, Miss Wilson to my
knowledge did excellent work and the pride she took in her ward in
Vladivostok was almost childish. She is most sympathetic with her
patients and they adore her. I truly feel that if Miss Wilson
has the liquor habit, as we have reason to believe she has, it is of
such long standing that it has become a disease and beyond her control.
The sad part of it all is that she was permitted to go with a Foreign
Commission Altho I must state very frankly that I never saw Miss
Wilson under the influence of liquor - she was a little boisterous
at times but that seemed to be a part of her general make-up.
Would it be possible to give Miss Wilson another chance, putting her
on her honor and giving her to understand that if she did not conduct
herself in a manner becoming a Red Cross Nurse even at home that the
matter would again be taken up and pushed to the limit?
