Miss Harrington, Director, Nursing Service

Miss Noyes, Director, Nursing Service.
re - Elizabeth Gertrude Wilson #26,516
En. Pittsburgh, Pa.
We are just in receipt of a letter from Miss Elizabeth
Gertrude Wilson who states that she met you recently on your way to
Buffalo, and talked with you regarding the unfavorable efficiency report
submitted to National Headquarter following her release from service
with the Siberian Commission. Miss Wilson advises that you promised
her to write us.
For your information may I say that the formal efficiency
report submitted August 29, 1919, signed by Mrs. Alice St. John, states -
"Miss Wilson at times compromised herself and brought criticism upon us
all." Letters from Miss Anna L. Tittman, Chief Nurse, make the follow-
ing statements:
per

August 1, 1919 have had occasion to suspect Miss
Elizabeth Wilson of partaking of liquor recently
but the suspicion has not been sufficiently
substantiated to cause the Department of
IN
Nursing to feel that it is justified in re-MOLE
turning her to the States. She has confessed
to me that she drank while enroute, and has
told me that she made a statement to this
effect to Major Emerson on arrival in Vladivostok.
Miss Wilson claims that most of the other nurses
on the boat took liquor also. I have questioned
Miss Webster, Nurses' Aid, who is a fine type of
woman, and she states very frankly that in this
Miss Wilson is correct. She said that light
wine was served at dinner, and most of the nurses
partook. She thinks that Miss Wilson did not
become intixicated. Her cabin was next to Miss
Wilson's."

"I regret very much to be obliged to
inform you that Miss Elizabeth Wilson, ,A.R.C. Nurse
#26,516, was definitely found to be a subject of
alcoholism and was dismissed from duty with the
Siberion Commission on August 29, 1919. The
authoritative statement of the physicians regard-
ing her will be found attached.
Miss Wilson has been recommended for
early transportation. A cable will be sent to you
giving the information regarding the date of her
departure.
Needless to say I am very sorry to have
been obliged to take this action regarding Miss
Wilson. She was found to be a very good worker and
was devoted to her patients. When she learned that
