    "ocrText": "R\neb\na\nDecember 8, 1942\nMiss Reba Elizabeth Munma\n2136 Fulton Street\n2\nToledo, Ohio\na\n5\nMy dear Miss Mumma:\nThank you very much for your prompt response to our recent letter\nconcerning the nursing service in Hawaii. If you are interested and\nwish to submit your application we will be able to consider your appoint-\nment two or three months from now or at whatever time you will be able\nto arrange to leave your present position. There are a number of\nemergency civilian hospitals to be staffed on the various islands and we\ndo not expect to complete the appointments for all of these positions\nwithin two or three months.\nto\nThe American Red Cross advances money to the nurse be pay her trans-\nportation expenses from her home to Hawaii. This is in the form of a\nloan. Upon arrival in Honolulu the nurse receives a reimbursement from\nthe Office of Civilian Defense in the Territory of Hawaii by whom she is\nemployed from the beginning and then in turn repays the Red Cross for\nthe advance. Therefore, your expenses would be only what you need for\npersonal clothing and a sufficient supply of uniforms. We advise all\nnurses to plan to take at least ten good uniforms, two pair of white\nshoes and plenty of white hose as these things are hard to get in Hawaii.\nWe have also been advised of the fact that underwear is difficult to\nobtain and so one would have to plan a supply for at least a year.\nIf you wish to be considered then please return the pink form and\nto get\nwe\nwill proceed on your other credentials in order, pending your appoint-\nment at the time you will be available. It is necessary to have your\nphysical condition approved by our Red Cross medical advisor before we\ncan make a definite appointment, therefore we would like to arrange for\na\nphysical examination for you if you indicate your interest and avail-\nI\nability.\nD\nVery truly yours,\n(Mrs.) Ernestine B.
