AME The August 9, 1941 people Mrs. Elizabeth V. Nance Umah c/o Miss Anne Duggan 1819 W. Pershing Road, Chicago, Illinois My dear Mrs. Nance: In order to maintain a roster showing the status of each nurse, our Red Cross nurses are now classified into three reserves, as follows: First Reserve: Includes nurses under 40 years of age, single (widowed or divorced) physically fit and available for all types of service, including military duty. Second Reserve: Includes nurses 40 years of age and over, or married, but active and available for all types of service except military duty. Third Reserve: Includes - A. Nurses who fail to keep their records active by responding to the annual questionnaire. B. Nurses who are no longer able to carry on any type of Red Cross service for the reason that they are physically disqualified. C. Nurses who definitely state their unavailability for any type of active duty for other reasons. You have been transferred to the Third Reserve because you fall in group described above. It is hoped that although your records are now in our inactive file, your interest in the Red Cross Nursing Service will encourage you to stimulate enrollment among those nurses eligible for the First Reserve and that you will participate in the volunteer activities of your local Chapter. Although you will not receive our annual address questionnaire in the future, may we assure you of our interest in you and of our good wishes at all times. Sincerely yours, Mary Beard R3 ne 3rd Mary Beard Director, Nursing Service.
