Pershing Road,\nChicago, Illinois\nMy dear Mrs. Nance:\nIn order to maintain a roster showing the status of each nurse, our\nRed Cross nurses are now classified into three reserves, as follows:\nFirst\nReserve: Includes nurses under 40 years of age, single (widowed or divorced)\nphysically fit and available for all types of service, including\nmilitary duty.\nSecond Reserve: Includes nurses 40 years of age and over, or married, but active\nand available for all types of service except military duty.\nThird Reserve: Includes -\nA. Nurses who fail to keep their records active by responding to the annual\nquestionnaire.\nB. Nurses who are no longer able to carry on any type of Red Cross service for\nthe reason that they are physically disqualified.\nC. Nurses who definitely state their unavailability for any type of active\nduty for other reasons.\nYou have been transferred to the Third Reserve because you fall in group\ndescribed above.\nIt is hoped that although your records are now in our inactive file, your\ninterest in the Red Cross Nursing Service will encourage you to stimulate enrollment\namong those nurses eligible for the First Reserve and that you will participate in\nthe volunteer activities of your local Chapter.\nAlthough you will not receive our annual address questionnaire in the\nfuture, may we assure you of our interest in you and of our good wishes at all times.\nSincerely yours,\nMary Beard\nR3\nne\n3rd\nMary Beard\nDirector, Nursing Service."
