Miss Hazel G. Bruner,
431 Second St.,
Santa Rosa, Cal.
My dear Miss
Your application for foreign service with the Czecho-Slovak Unit
under the Red Cross has been received in this office. The Bureau of Personnel
will send you definite instructions concerning your date of sailing and may I
request that you do not proceed to San Francisco until you have received these
instructions.
Any change of address before receiving instructions for sailing
should be sent to the Director, Bureau of Personnel, American Red Cross, San
Francisco, Calif- May we suggest that you do not give up the work that you are
doing until definite instructions regarding date of sailing have been received.
I am enclosing circular of information which give you detailed
instructions concerning equipment, insurance and so on.
The term of service is for such a period as you may be required,
probably one year. Nurses sent over under the Red Cross are expected to remain
in the service, and requests for transfer to the Military service cannot be con-
sidered.
You are allowed salary which is $70.00 per month from date of
leaving home to date on which you are booked to sail. If you are held in San
Francisco after that time the additional salary will be paid in Siberia. During
this time, as you are in the employment of the Red Cross, you will be expected to
perform such service as may be assigned to you by the Division Director of Nursing.
You should report as soon after arrival in San Francisco as possible
to the Division Director, Miss Lillian White at 870 Market Street, The Flood Bldg.
Explicit instructions regarding allotment of salaries and insurance will be given
you in the Division office in San Francisco. After sailing no change can be made
in the method of salaries. Instructions to nurses arriving in San Francisco after
3.00 P.M.. on Saturday or on Sunday will be sent at a later date.
One nurse will be selected by Miss White who will act as Head
Nurse of the Unit until they arrive at their destination, and report to the
representative of that place. This nurse is also in charge of Nurses' Aids who
may sail on the same ship.
