Miss Mary K. Nelson,
The Highland Hospital,
1820 Highland Avenue,
Fall River, Mass.
My dear Miss Nelson:
Your application for enrollment as a Red Cross nurse has been forwarded
to this office through the Boston Local Committee and I am sending by separate
mail your appointment card and badge.
May I thank you for the report recently sent by the Highland Hospital
which I have looked over with much interest.
There is a possibility that we may send some Red Cross nurses to France
about the 20th of February and may I ask if you would be available for service at
that time?
I
am sending a physical examination blank and if you desire appointment,
will you kindly return this at once so that I may send you instructions in regard
to immunity treatment for typhoid. May I also ask if you speak French?
In your letter of January 20 you say that you would prefer to give up
your position for the purpose of qualifying for continued service in Red Cross work.
It seems only fair to tell you that we have no permanent positions connected wi th
the Red Cross and if assigned to duty in Europe your connection with the Red Cross
would probably be severed upon your return from this duty. We use our Red Cross
nurses only in time of relief work or special service such as we are now doing in
Europe. I do not wish you to resign your present position unless you clearly under-
stand the circumstances.
Yours sincerely,
Chairman National Committee
Red Cross Nursing Service.
D-A.
Inclosure.
