Nelson,\n73 Newbury Street,\nBoston, Mass.\nMy dear Miss Nelson:\nYour letter of the 17th, informing me that you\nwould be obliged to underro an operation has just reached me.\nI\ncannot begin to tell you how much I regret that this necessity\nexists, and while I am at first concerned a bit about you, I cannot\nhelp but feel also a bit anxious about the office, although I am\nsure Miss Wildes will do all she can to carry the work while you\nare gone.\nPlease let me know where you will be, and\nwill you not ask someone in the office to notify me when the opera-\ntion is over and the results? I will write to Mr. Rotch, whom I\nexpect to see sometime in the latter part of January when the\nDivision Managers meet in Washington. It is not a very merry\nChristmas for you is it, and while you will be obliged to undergo\nthe comforts of attendant upon the operation and the convalescence,\nscience has done so much to reduce the dangers that one hardly takes\nthem into consideration at the present time, so that I am not worrying\nabout you on that account, but I know how hard it is for you to lay\ndown your work and have to endure being chained to a bed.\nWith best wishes for a Happy Christmas and as\nlittle discomfort as possible following the operation, I am\nSincerely yours,\nDirector - Nursing Service.\nN-k"
