Miss Mary K. Nelson,
73 Newbury Street,
Boston, Mass.
My dear Miss Nelson:
Your letter of the 17th, informing me that you
would be obliged to underro an operation has just reached me.
I
cannot begin to tell you how much I regret that this necessity
exists, and while I am at first concerned a bit about you, I cannot
help but feel also a bit anxious about the office, although I am
sure Miss Wildes will do all she can to carry the work while you
are gone.
Please let me know where you will be, and
will you not ask someone in the office to notify me when the opera-
tion is over and the results? I will write to Mr. Rotch, whom I
expect to see sometime in the latter part of January when the
Division Managers meet in Washington. It is not a very merry
Christmas for you is it, and while you will be obliged to undergo
the comforts of attendant upon the operation and the convalescence,
science has done so much to reduce the dangers that one hardly takes
them into consideration at the present time, so that I am not worrying
about you on that account, but I know how hard it is for you to lay
down your work and have to endure being chained to a bed.
With best wishes for a Happy Christmas and as
little discomfort as possible following the operation, I am
Sincerely yours,
Director - Nursing Service.
