Dunbar\nUse of Funds which Kellogg Foundation\nDeposited With Us for Supplementing\nSalary of Marguerite Weles\nmagariety that forcer\nI should like to recommend that the balance of $2168.21 from the Keliogg Found-\nation, Battle Creek, Michigen, fund which was deposited with us to supplement\nthe salory of Marguerite wales be turned over to Miss Wales.\nAt present the status of this is as fo. lows:\n1. On February 22, 1945, MrS E. s. Dugen, Assistant to the National Director\nof Accounting, reported the amount remaining in the fund as $2168.21, and\nD\nat that time Miss Wales had terminated her connection with the American\nRed Cross due to illness.\ne\n2. on Murch 5, I notified MrS. Dugan that in conference with you, you had\nX\napproved our holding this amount pending later employment of Miss Wales\nat which time it could be paid to her according to previous arrengements.\nIt was thought that possibly Miss Wales might accept a chapter appoint-\nment in California or some climate where she could live but this\nadditionel fact is not on record anywhere.\n3. The basis on which this money was turned over to the Red Cross by the\nKellogg Foundation was as follows:\n\"It is our understending now that she will participate from this\npoint forward in whatever plen the emerican Red Cross has for\nretirement for which she is eligible. If she should leave the\nAmerican Red Cross before expiration of the period covered in\nthis grant, the balance of the $6000 transmitted herewith may be\nused for any nursing program of the American Red Cross.\"\nFrom a letter of August 28, 1942, Dr. George Darling, President\nof the W. K. Kellogg Foundation to Miss Virginia Dunbar.\nIt seems to me this action would be particularly in keaping with the purpose of\nthe fund because the reason for Miss Wales giving up hor work at all at this\ntime she did was illness and she hus been ill eversince she left us and is still\nunable to work.\nVirginia M.
