Z ChicAgo, Ch +1 s February 15, 1935 Miss Christine Nuno St. Luke's International Medical Center Tokyo, Japan My dear Miss Nuno: Your letter of December 27th, enclosing Mr. Zydeman's communication, has been received. As it is "water under the bridge" now it is very little I can do about it, especially as you probably know that Judge l'ayne died on the 24th of January and was buried on his eightieth birthday, on the 26th. I am quite sure that Judge Payne felt that he had appointed you on the advisory group. Apparently Mr. Zydeman, or whoever he consulted, were not aware of the fact that provision has always been made at these Conferences for advisory delegates and any number may be appointed. Mr. Zydeman was not particularly familiar with the League of Red Cross Societies and its operations, evidently misunderstood the situation. I an deeply sorry and I know Judge Payne would regret it for he told me right away of the action he had taken. I was interésted to hear that Marion Arnold was Secretary to the Japanese Ambassador. Some day I will try and get in touch with her. I recall calling up the Embassy sometime ago to see if they could suggest suitable quarters for two Japanese nurses who were visiting Washington, not yours however, and was gratified with the prompt service given, as well as by the practicability of her sugges- tions and courteous minner. I am looking forward thth great deal of pleasure to play- ing contract with you. I do not play bridge any longer. Contract is the successor to bridge, based on the same game but far more interest- ing. If you do not know how to play it you must learn. I was glad to hear that the National Society of mursing improving. Ultimately they will probably come out all right but I am sure it is going to take a lot of assistance from you and I know that Miss Hagiwara appreciates your assistance, especially your coaching at the National Convention. to 2
