Miss Christine M. Nuno
M
St. Luke's International Hospital
Tokyo, Japan
My dear Miss Nuno:
The very lovely print which you so kindly sent
me as a Christmas gift was received a few days ago. It is really
very beautiful and I have sent it to be framed, as it was all
together too lovely to lay aside. I decided sometime ago not to
put up any more pictures, and have placed a good many in my store-
room, but this is all together too lovely to suffer that fate, so
I shall make room for it on my living room wall, where I can look
u and see it. You can almost feel the snow under the feet of
those pilgrims who are climbing up that long flight of stairs.
Please accept ny very deep appreciation not only of your thought
of me, but of the very beautiful gift.
This reminds me that I had a square of silk
from Miss Hagiwara. I presume it is intended to tie-up bundles,
or possibly to be used as a three-cornered scarf. She send ne
something very like it last Christmas, and while I apprecióte very
greatly her thought of me, I whph there was some way of heading off
these gifts. In the first place, I cannot reciprocate to any great
extent, and in the second place, I know it is a tax upon her.
However, I presume with the propensity of the Japanesa to give
presents there is no way of stopping it once it was started.
Your. Christmes card crrived with its mes age,
and so far I have not yet seen Marion Arnold or your Japanese family.
However, I presume they will be doming along in due course of time,
especially if they are here on Rockefeller Schôlarships, inasmuch
as they seem to send practically all of their students hore.
No doubt you were glad to the last of the
Red Cross group. Miss Boardman told me she had dinner with you; do
tell me about it, and any details of conversation in which you think
w
I would be interested. The Bruces are a very nice family, old
friends of mine, as they used to go to Lyme for the summer, and Jim
Bruce, the son, was en interne at Bellevue when I was general
superintendent. I had not heard that Mrs. Bruce had been taken ill.
Elizabeth is an exceedingly nice young woman, a graduate (as you
probably know) of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing of
New York.
