As to the "director of nursing" she is entirely
in charge of the nursing work both American and native

and etc. All orders going to the medical personnel in the
field are signed by both the medical director and director
of nursing. It was necessary when we had no doctor to have
an acting medical director as the native doctors in the
fields hesitated to carry out the orders unless they came
from à medical director. Now that Dr. Marden has been
regualarly appointed and Dr. Dewey is his assistant, it is
only of few occasions that I shall be called upon to act
in that capacity and am only authorized to sign checks
as acting medical director during the absence of the other two
from the city. I am sure, therefore, no complication will arise.
