PFRSONAL
My dear Miss Nuno:

Your letter of Fébruary 13th, with the photographs,
has been received, I am glad to learn that the linen wns not expensive,
for I felt very much worried when I saw it, as I was afraid you had
sperit n good deal of money upon me, and as you know with my ideas of
economy how distressing this would be to me.
I have not time at the present moment to discues
the Schrool with you, but from all I can gather you appear to be malring
a good beginning. I should, however, like to ses the School established
on a básis that would guarantee its permanency. A School for the
orphans iw one thing, as you quite rightly state, while one that will
not only provide for orphans but for the training of Greek women as well
is another, and it is the latter which I should like to see,
I have already written to you regarding examination
papers, and you will ses in a recent issue of the Courier that we have
given considerable prominence to the work which you are doing. Please
do not think I am trying to discourage this enterprise, for I -believe
in it quite fully. with the experience that we have had with schools
in other countries, I am inclined to be very cautious as to the method
of undertaking an enterprise which will be possible to carry on after
we leave,
In regard to you relationship to the A.W.H., the
principle question there, of course, wag the repudiation of Dr. Elliott's
action by the A.W.M., They claim, of dourse, thit she knew perfectly
well that she could not act independently of the Headquarters Office.
You, unfortunately, are the sufferer thereby, as neither you nor I have
anything to do with their administrative and organization difficulties,
nevertheless you vill recall that I wrote many times to both you and Mrs.
Heilman, regarding the uncertainty of the relationship and the great
importance of securing the National Headquarters confirmation of your
appointment, and that I could not regard anything as official until the
National Office had so informed me. Perhaps I am wrong in the attitude
I have tairen, but from my understanding or the aituation I cannot believe
that I am. However, there is nothing to be gained by discussing a
situation which is now past history in the restricted medium of a letter,
and I will, therofore, "lay this on the table", as my friend Dr. Larkin
frequently says, "under the head of unfinished business,"
