N u 5 for May 31, 1923, Miss Christine M. Nuno, c/o American Consul General, Athens, Greece, 3 My dear Miss Nuno: Your letter of the 15th of April reached me a week or ten days ago. I was very glad, indeed, to redeive it but have delayed replying as I wanted to discuss it with Miss Johnson and thought it was better to do this personally than by letter. As I expected to be in New York on Saturday morning, the 19th, I delayed my response until after that. Following this was a weide in the New England Division, New Bedford and elsewhere, finally is back to New York last Saturday morning for conferences, Then, two plat full days at National Headquarters, It seema to me in view of all the circumatances, it would be better for you to come back to this country. Your cable received on March 28th, however, would make it look as if you had accepted the assigument, of course you know that I wrote to Dr. Ellfott in reply to et letter from her, stating that I had groat faith in your ability to direct the nursing work of the American Women's Hospital, Your letter, however, has made ine feel that it would be better for you to come back. I realize that you have a right to decide the question for yourself, but after talking it over with Mias Johneon it seems wiser from our point to have you return. I will follow this letter with a later one, but I felt I could not further delay my reply until I have time to go more into minute detail. In regard to the equipment, may I state that the matter of the distribution of the equipment lies entirely in the hands of Colonel Haskell and Mrs. Heilman. A cable was sent sometime ago, approvising of the disposition of this, in accordance with a recom- mendation submitted by Major Daley. I have already written to Mrs. Heilman, stating that I should be glad to have the nurses who are with the American Women's Hospital, as wall as the Near East Relief receive such articles as they may need, so that Mrs. Heilman is prepared to dispose of it in such manner as the local conditions would indicate, It is just pessible that I dionot unierstand your cable, but I inferred that you had accepted the assignment from Dr. Elliett, and wished to have our nurses' equipment assign:d to you for distribution. The attached cable has been sent in reply. Sincerely yours, N-k National Director, Nursing Service,
