Nem England Hompital for TUnmen and Uhildren COLUMBUS AVENUE AND DIMOCK STREET, BOSTON 19. JESSÌE E. CATTON, R.N. SUPERINTENDENT April 15, 1930 Miss Clara D. Noyes, Director -R 1 1 6 1930 American Red Cross Nursing Service Heforred to Wa'shington, D. C. nursing My dear Miss Noyes: Miss Linda Richards is a patient at the New England Hospital for Women and Children, and we think will live only a short time. We are, therefore, assembling tributes and other material relative to her life and work for the American Journal of Nursing. I am writing to ask if you, as Director of the American Red Cross Nursing Service, will be willing to send me a short tribute relative to some phase of her life and work with which you may be acquainted. I am finding it very difficult to get such material together since so many of Miss Richards' contemporaries have passed away. She is in her 89th year, and I suppose without doubt bears the distinction of being the first woman to graduate as a nurse in America. Miss Richards was brought to this hospi- tal about a month ago, and seems to be failing in strength from day to day We are, therefore, mak- ing a great effort to have considerable data on hand for publication at the time of her death. Very sincerely yours, function Superintendent N Callon JEC/O
