This is essential if you\nare to secure your passport.\nI am enclosing a circular of information which gives you dotailed\ninstructions concerning material for your passport. I would suggest that\nyou secure immediately the information necessary, and I would further\nsuggest that you have three (3) dozen photographs, instead of the two (2)\ndozen mentioned in the circular and that the size of the head should not\nbe more than 1 by 12 inches in order to fit some of the papers, and that\nno hat should be worn. These phtbographs should cost not more than 50\ncents to one dollar a dozen, and should be gotten as reasonably as possible.\nIn the cities where there is frequent request for passports, the regulation\nphübograph can be obtained for about this rice. In the case of nurses not\ncitizens of the U. S., it will be necessary to make application for pass-\npert to the Consul representing thin country.\nThe term of service is for the period of the war, but nurse may be\nreleased at the expiration on one year if the reasons for their requests\nfor release meet with the approval of the authorites. Nurses sent over\nunder the Red Cross are expected to remain in this service and requests\nfor transfer to the military servico will not be considered.\nWe request that you pay your own transportation to New York securing\nvouchers for all expenditures and presenting these with your bills at the\nNew York Office for reimbursement. You are allowed hotel bill for 3 days\nprior to the date on which you are bdoked to sail at $3.00 a day, and for\nany time you may be held in New York after that date, as the ships rarely\nsail on the designated date. You will probably have from three to six\ndays extra in New York, thus having full time for any preparations it\n19 necessary to make.\nYou are allowed salary at $2.00 a day from date of leaving home to\ndate on which booked to sail. If you are held in New York after that\ntime, the additional salary will be paid in France."
