a M -4- We had planned to save travel by including a series of institutes in each trip, (2 daya in each place). Miss Dunn was to take over the ones suggest- ed in Trips 1 and 2 and Miss DeLaskey in Trips E and 4. I hope you can arrange to let them do this work as they have been making great plans for it. Miss Dunn as you know is assisting at Penn State Gollege this summer and will get much in- S spiration and help for this Sort of thing there. 5. Teaching Laboratory in the District of Colunbia Chapter a I think there is a great need for a téaching laboratory here at Head- quarters and hope you will revive interest in it as soon as the depression is over. Miss DeLaakey would be an admirable person to conduct this work as she is full of ideas and plans for teaching. While you were away, National Headquarters decided to discontinue the Home Hygiene program in the Chapter even though the Chapter had offered to con- pribute $600 to Miss Andersen's salary next year. I tried hard to get the Chap- ter to carry on independently for at least three months this fall, which they re- fused to do. Miss Andersen resigned her position to take effect after she completes her work at Syracuse University. She left with a great feeling of bitterness I toward me, feeling that I caused her to lose her position. It is true that did not need a general assistant in my department but would have been gled to have her do the work at the Chapter. Mr. Fieser offered her Misa DeLaskey's position is being paid a full salary for the three months after she leaves Syracuse which which ahe refused. She is not being left high and dry however, as she gives her practically six months to look around. After the sumner session is over she will be back in Washington to make her report to you. I feel that now you will need another assistant and have recommended to Mr. Fieser that Miss An- dersen be taken back. She has much to contribute as a regular assistant but has not as yet shown much creative ability. She was highly regarded as an instruct- or over in the Chapter house and the personnel here at Headquarters who have had her as & teacher are most enthusiastic. Reports on her institute work vary. Some sing her praises loudly, others like Miss Groscop, Mrs. Brom of Gincinnati, and Miss Gooper of Berkshire Co., Mass., think she should not be doing this type of work. Of course it is possible that they are not competent to evaluate the contribution she made to the instructors. &. Teacher Training Courses for Home Hygiene Instructors The summer sessions are now in progress (or will be the first of next week.) Our enrollment has been quite serioualy affected by the depression and many ithdrawals have come in. Registration is as follows: Colorado Agricultural Gollege 18 University of California 20 Fennsylvania State College 15 2 Syracuse University 10 2
