Miss Mabel J. Rue,
711 Avenue A,
Bismarck, N. Dakota.
My dear Miss Rue#
Uwing to absence from the office for the past
two. months, due to illness, I have not been able to keep up with
my
correspondence as 1 should have liked, although I have done a
good deal of it from my home by having my secretary come to me
there very frequently, bringing such material as I needed to see.
However, before my illness, which dates back
now to May 18th, I discussed with Mrs. Baker and also Mr. Fieser,
the question of your ap cointment as -irector of Home dygiene and
Care of the Sick. I am delighted to know that Baker's and
ny recommendation have been accepted, and that you have accepted
the ppointment.
There are a good many things I want to talk over
with you upon your arrival at the American Red Cross, for even
though the tome Hygiene Pervice has a great deal of autonomy, as
does the Public Health Nursing Service, still I am deeply inter-
ested in it, and em I believe regarded as the Dean of the Service.
I, there ore, hope that I will be in the office when you arrive
on September first.
Your preparation for the work could not be
for your preparation and experience have been of a rather unusual
type. I an looking forward to the time when you will become a
member of our official family, and I also want you to feel that
you cancome to me at any time for such assistance as I may be
prepared to render. You have excellent Assistants awaiting your
arrival, and I know they too ure looking formard to your advent
with grest pleasure.
Sincerely yours,
n.h
