Mi SS Winifred M. Ryan,
2708 Chowen Avenue,
Monneapolis, Minn.
My dear Miss Ryan:
Your letter to Dr. Pemberton has been referred to me for
reply.
We are de velopong a service in Pediatrics and from time to
time send groups of nurses to France. I will be very glad to
put your name on file as available for this special service.
Please notify me immediately when you will be ready and submit
a physical examination to this office for approval, and also
may I ask that you start the immunity treatment for typhoid and
paratyphoid immediate ly and that you are vaccinated against
smallpox. I am enclosing a physical examination blank and im-
munity slips.
As soon as you are ready for service we will be glad to as-
sign you with the first group of nurses leaving this country.
It may be that we will be able to assign you on October 6th, so
it is imperative that you start your im unity treatment and sub-
mit your physical examination imrediately.
It would also be well for you to secure a copy of your birth
certificate and have 4 photographs taken for your passport, so
that should we be able to assign you with this group sailing on
October 6th you would be ready and be able to secure your passport
without difficulty.
Thanking you for your interest in Red Cross work, I am,
Very truly yours,
Director, Bureau of Nursing Service.
