Miss Stefanie Schlesinger
15 Roseville Avenue
Newark, N. J.
My dear Miss Schlesinger:
Your letter of May 18 arrived just after we had completed a
letter to you enclosing your check for $300.00 to cover your expenses
for travel and maintenance so that you can proceed with your reserva-
tions to San Francisco.
I am so glad that you can spend some time with your mother
before you leave.
As to your baggage it should be addressed to the Hotel Bellevue
in San Francisco where your reservations have been made as of June 22nd.
The policy of the Office of Civilian Defense in regard to the
return expenses of the nurses has been to pay all expenses for nurses re-
turning after completion of their services. If the nurse leaves because
of conduct prejudicial to the service, or because of personal reasons,
the nurse will assume responsibility for her own expenses.
The voucher for your expenses reached us and has been sent to
accounts and you will receive a check to cover these very soon.
Be sure to write asking any questions which occur to you because
we are only too anxious to be able to answer them. Personally I do hope
that when you get to Hawaii that you will write me some newsy letters de-
picting the life and work of the girls with whom you will be associating.
I know from my personal interview with you how interesting and constructive
your letters will be.
We trust that you will have a pleasant trip across the country and
that you will let us hear from you after you have arrived in San Francisco.
Very truly yours,
(Mrs.) George T. Douglas
