Miss Annie E. Slack

My dear Miss Slack:
In answer to your letter addressed to Miss Noyes,
I am sorry that I must send you very sad news because you evidently
have not heard of her sudden death on June 3rd. While Miss Noyes
was very tired and not feeling as well as usual, she had, however,
had no illness and there was no warning of her approaching end.
She died in her car on her way to the office that morning, probably
of an embolism. Of course, it is needless to say that her death
was a great shock to us and we realize that we have met with an
irreparable loss.
I am sure that if Miss Noyes had been living, she
would have enjoyed your letter as I have and congratulate you on
the venture you have undertaken and wish you every success. We will
keep it in mind though franicly the people that we hear of who are
in need of a home such as you offer would not be able to find the
$50.00 a week to pay for it. Usually older women who have an income
of that amount a month because, of course, in addition to the $50.00
they would be obliged to look after their clothes and other needs,
generally maintain their own home. However, you may be assured that
we will bear your suggestion in mind and refer anyone to you who may
ask us for the information.
