E S A September 29, 1917. Miss Eunice A. Smith, Superintendent Nurses General Hospital, Rochester, N. Y. My dear Miss Smith: In all probability the Red Cross will be called upon to supply chief nurses for many of the cantonment hospitals now being organized in the United States and I am writing to ask you if you would be willing to fill one of these positions for us. The hospitals will be from five hundred to a thousand bed hospitals and we feel that these positions are very impor- tant and are anxious to be ready when the call comes for chief nurses. We would like to have you round up as many nurses from your hospital, or in your vicinity, as possible and I would be glai to supply any kacking, from other detachments. Please let me hear from you as soon as possible. Yours very truly. B/LA Director, Bureau of Nursing Service.
