FORM 222
THE AMERICAN RED CROSS
NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS
NEW ENGLAND DIVISION
ToMiss Clara D. Noyès, Director of Nursing, Date March 23, 1923.
Washington, D. C.
Frommiss Mary K. Nelson, Div. Director of
Subject Gertrude 'Smith.
Nursing, New England Division.
Your letter of March 20th stating that an
effort is being made to establish Miss Gertrude Smith's eligibility for in-
surance makes us feel a certain comfortable satisfaction. It pleases us to
have a possibility of being of some help to her. The doctor's opinion is
that the condition is temporary, but that it will take considerable time.
You may be interested and disturbed as
well to know that Miss Smith, in her effort to gain self-control resorted to
$
Christian Science. This was the last straw--the real upsetting. Through
Miss Sarah Parsons, she had secured information and instruction along Christian
Science lines. This seems almost worse than pathetic.
Miss Smith's sister seems a very
sensible and thoughtful woman. To have the insurance re-opened will mean
considerable to Miss Smith mentally, as the expense of this enforced absence
from work is what is troubling her.
