AMERICAN RED CROSS-HARVARD FIELD HOSPITAL UNIT
SALISBURY, ENGLAND
JOHN E. GORDON, M.D., DIRECTOR
February 20th., 1942
Following the torpedoing of the
S.S. Maasdam on which I was travelling, my left eye
began to water and redden. It was washed out and
seemed to be alright. Later, upon any eye strain,
such as reading, the reddness and watering would
reappear. I noticed that I could not see clearly
with my left eye. In November a tiny white mark
appeared upon the corner. I reported this to
Dr. Beeson who sent me to a Salisbury eye
specialist.

(I have been with Miss Smith constantly
and have witnessed the eye trouble she
has experienced since our boat the
S.S. Maasdam was torpedoed)
