Miss Laurine Alva Smith,
Butterworth Hospital,
Grand Rapids, Michigan
My dear Miss Smith:
We would like to include you in the next group to sail.
This group will probably leave around June 15. You should be
ready to leave on short notice.
For obvious reasons you are specially requested not to di-
vulge to anyone the date or ship on which you expect to sail.
You should not show the ship's name on any rags or labels attached
to your luggage; simply specify "A Ship".
Will you kindly fill in the enclosed application blanks and
return them immediately by air mail. ALL three sheets must be
signed. Questions #5, c,d,e of #7 and #9 need not be answered.
The remaining unanswered questions on all three copies must be
filled in.
When we send you a definite sailing date please assure us
immediately by wire that you are able to report at the place
of embarkation at the designated time. We need to be sure that
each member of the group is able to report as scheduled.
Encloses is a check which is to defray official expenditures
enroute to England. You are urged to purchase American Railway
Express Travelers Checks with this advance. Be sure that you are
familiar with the instructions given by Mr. Harold Foy, director
of accounting. These instructions were sent to you previously
together with the green booklet, "Trayel and Leave Regulations".
Passengers may not take into the United Kingdom more than 10
pounds per person in Sterling notes. Any Sterling notes in the
possession of passengers over and above 10 pounds will be liable
to confiscation. During the voyage, passengers may use one pound or
10 shilling notes but the Purser is not permitted to accept notes of
5 pounds or higher denomination. Passengers are warned not to exchange
more than is required for their use during the voyage or for immediate
expenses on landing, bearing in mind the fact that they may not take
into Great Britain more than 10 pounds in Sterling notes.
