May 16, 1941 Miss Laurine Alva Smith, Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan My dear Miss Smith: We have received your letter of May 12 and were sorry to learn of your appendectomy and hope that you continue to improve satisfacto- rily. Today the Supply Office informed us that your white uniforms had been shipped so you should receive them in a few days. It will be necessary for you to submit E receipted bill for your x-ray before the expense voucher can be cleared with the Accounting Office. Enclosed you will find a list of questions submitted to us by various members of our nursing staff which we have answered to the best of our ability. Plans are progressing satisfactorily and we are angious st this time to make sure that everyone is ready. We hope now that when we have a definite date of sailing we will be able to give you 10 days notice, but you should make your plans concerning vacation, etc., so that We may be able to get in touch with you easily and qucckly at any time. If you wish to take money with you for personal expenses in addition to the check submitted by the American Red Cross it seems there is no restriction on the amount taken into Britain but not more than 10 Pounds can be brought out. You will be supplied with a white riding shirt which should be kept for special occasions when a group may have to appéar in uniform. Sincerely yours, Gertrude Madley, Chief Nurse, American Red Cross-Harvard Hospital Unit. M/B Inc. - 1
