Miss Smith: -2- January 31, 1941 We are writing to the State Department, supporting your application and requesting that the passport be sent to us so that we may obtain a British visa for you here in Washington, after which we will return the passport to you. There may be some delay in obtaining passports until we know just what boat we will be sailing on. DO do not be disturbed if you fail to receive yours shortly after application has been filed. We would like to have the following information: your fullnname; age; religion; name and address of your nearest relative, stating relation- ship; and the name and address of the person or bank to which you wish to have your salary paid while you are in England. These salary checks will be paid the first of the month automatically and will be less deductions on a drawing account for personal expenses in England. Your family will be notified of your arrival there and it is the present intention of Harvard University to issue a monthly report to them. Mail may be sent to the American Red Cross Headquarters, London, England. It will be forwarded to us from there. "ith this letter we are sending you a copy of the latest News Release. You may be contacted by the press and with permission of your present empl employer, it will be quite alright to discuss your appointment to the Harvard Unit. Do not take caneras, We do not expect to sail for England until about March 15. will you let us know if you have any difficulty in holding your present position.
