The following information is furnished concerning insurance
to be provided Red Cross nurses forming a part of the American Red Cross-
Harvard Hospital Unit in England.
It is proposed to provide the following insurance:
1. Life insurance. Each Red Cross nurse as well as all Red Cross
employees presently in overseas service will be insured with the Metropolitan
Life Insurance Company under a group term life insurance policy which will provide
in case of death from any cause while the insurance is in force, the sum of $2000
for such beneficiary as the insured employee may designate. This insurance may,
at the option of the worker and upon her return to the United States and termination
of employment, be converted without medical examination into any of the usual forms
of Life Insurance, excepting term insurance, written by the Metropolitan Life In-
surance Company at rates applicable to the attained age and class of risk.
2.
Sickness and Accident Insurance. It is proposed to have each
overseas worker covered by a sickness and accident insurance policy written for
us by the Travelers Insurance Company upon a cost plus basis, which insurance will
provide weekly indemnity of $25.00 for a period of one hundred weeks for continuous
and total disability resulting from accident sustained or disease contracted within
one year from the date of the policy and while engaged in overseas work for us. The
weekly indemnity payment will commence four weeks after beginning of disability
during which four weeks period it is assumed the overseas worker's regular salary
will be paid by the organization.
If the disability first starts after the worker has returned to the
United States and left Red Cross service, then in order to obtain any benefit from
the policy it is necessary to establish that the accident or sickness disability had
its direct origin while in Red Cross overseas service.
This insurance is provided by the Red Cross and the nurse meets no
part of the expense.
