t K Ella P C O.P Y. belen Scott Paris, Feb. 8, 1922. Directór of Hursing Service, Acerican Red Crons, Turope Paris. "y dear l'iss Hay: While in Serbia you asiced me to find out sonething more about Miss Slack, her work and her reasons for dismissel, also about Sudler. Unfortunately T did not see l'isn l'ellovern, but T taliced with Tr. Render and l'iss Mapee concerning both of these nurses, and incidentally other nurses gave me their opinious. MTSS SLACK: I learned nothing more definite than that lifs hn/1 already written to you, which was that Viss Slack did not conduct the station properly, was insolent, end said she was not sent dow there to work and that she didn't intend to do any more then she had to. Both Miss Tapes and Tr Resder feol, that from the first minute Miss Slack came down there her spfrit wha very poore l'ost of the nursos think very highly of lifs McGovern and forl that she has always done excellent work and gotten along very well with people. NTS SUTLER: uiss Surller wan not anked to resign burt was released on her am request, although both Tr. Reeder and Miss Vapes say that her work we not very satisfactery in that she did not coóperate very vell and her spirit wns very poore T personnelly fenl that part of the diess culty with the personnel in Serbia is due to the fact that Nism Tinpes is not a good essecutive or hes not B strong decisive character. She does not inspire the nurses either profesni anally or personalelly. From my own questioning of her regarding the work, T should say that she had very little iden. of the work specifically end that she could be of no special holp to the nurses in the details of their work. She was very nice personally but is not positive minded enough to Impress the nurses, and T khow the nurses munt bn avero of the fect that they can more or less prejudice hor one way or the other. Tf it were not so late in the program A should resormend that l'iss apes be released, but because she does know the conditions in Serbia knows the comtry, and gets along very well with the s, and the nursing service is apt to be stable for the rest of the program, I would say that it would be inadvisable. T strongly feeI, hawever, that Viss apes' own personality on e understend the reason for so much disaffection among so many of the nursos that have been in Serbia. Yours sincerely, Sign. Sophie C. Nelson, A.R.C. Field Tnspector, Turopa.
