My dear Miss Stahl:
Your physical has been approved by our Red Cross medical advisor
and we are nou in a position to offer you an appointment as Staff Nurse
with one of the civilian emergency hospitals in the Hawaiian Islands which
is under the direct jurisdiction of the Emergency Medical and Hospital
Service of the Territorial Office of Civilian Defense in the Territory of
Hawaii. This position carries the sulary of $112.50 per month, including
full maintenance and the laundering of your uniforms. Your salary will
start from the time you take your Oath of orfice in San Francisco, as will
also the terms of your employment with the office of Civilian Defense,
in accordance with the employment regulations enclosed.
AS you have noted, we have advised you to take your own hospital
cape. However, we shall supply you with thrce Red Cross caps and eight
Red Cross insignia to be worn on your uniforas. These are now being sent
from our Supply Department and should reach you wi thin a uh rt time. This
equipment is in the form of a loan and you will be expected to return it
to this office whenever you terminate your service there.
The required immuni ations are snallpox, triple typhoid and tetanus
toxoid. If you have not been vaccinated for smallpox within the past year,
a repeat vaccination is advised. AS both the tetanus and typhond inocu-
lations are given in & series covering several weeks, you will need to
start these at once. If your immunizations are not completed before you
leave home, arrange to take the medication with you, nd if an inoculation
comes due while you are in San Francisco, please get in touch th Miss
Gladyce Badger, Civic Auditorium, Larkip & Grove Streets, ano is in charge
of our Pacific Area Office, and who will make arrangements for this to be
given. Enclosed are duplicate immunization forms. One is to be returned
to this office, the other you will keep with you at all timés. In case
your inoculations have not been completed before you leave the Mainland,
please return one immunization register to this office, indicating the time
that the series will have been completed.
