WAR DEPARTMENT
OFFICE OF THE SURGEON GENERAL
WASHINGTON
magan
ROCH
December 10, 1928.

A
Miss Ida F. Butler, Assistant
to the National Director,
American Red Cross Nursing Service,
Washington, D.C.
My dear Miss Butler:
I am inclosing, herewith, a copy of a
letter I have just sent Miss Laurie Phillips about the
status of the American Ambulance and of Miss Margaret A.
Stryker, in relation to Legion membership.
In your letter of October 20th to Miss
Phillips is a statement that is slightly in error.
You say "as the Military Hospitals under the Red Cross
in France were conducted by personnel directly under
the American Red Cross and not by reserve nurses in the
Army Nurse Corps", etc. This is correct only in certain
cases, -For some of the American Red Cross Military
Hospitals had_ military personnel. For instance-
American Red Cross Military Hospital, No.5 at Auteuil,
Miss Harriet Leete, Reserve, Army Nurse Corps, Chief Nurse.
There were others too, so perhaps it is better to take
each individual nurses case separately to determine her
status.
Sincere 1y yours,
for Julia C. Cithus Stimson,
Major, Army Nurse Corps,
Superintendent
Inclosure.
