My dear Miss Noy es :
I am enclosing you copies of letters which may
be
valuable in giving you information of matter which I
will try to explain:
I am making claim in back pay which, as you will
see by letter, is due me from October 1 to October 19, in-
clusive, when we were recalled in 1915 by the American Red
Cross. AS you will see, this is all Red Cross. When the
Red Cross recalled the Nurses, they were given Forty pounds
($194.66) for return expenses, and were given the privilege
of returning home or remaining in service abroad. This
latter I chose, and went later to the American Ambulance at
Neuilly-sur-Seine, I remained a little over two years.
From there I enrolled with the American Red Cross and went
to Italy, January 1, 1918, and remained with the A. R. C.
until we were recalled in April, 1919, when I returned to
my home in Buffalo, N. Y.
Since returning, I have been in communication with
the Buffalo Chapter and, through the advice of Mrs. Richard
Noye, the Executite Secretary, and Miss Kate I. Kennedy, Chair-
man of the Buffalo A. R. C. Nursing Service, I am writing you
asking for advice on the following questions:
1. The money coming to me from past salary for the
month of October 1 to 19, (inclusive) 1915, which the enclosed
copy will show (at $60.00 per month) I could not have sailed
before that date, as there were no sailings; and, as Copy #1
shows, my expenses were paid up to that date.
2. How much of that expense money am I entitled
to, according to Copy #2? As we were given the privilege of
remaining abroad, what am I entitled to?
