    "ocrText": "AMERICAN RED CROSS\nDISTRICT OF COLUMBIA CHAPTER\nTO\nNursing Service\nDATE: May 28, 1943\n:\nFROM\n:\nMrs. Baker\nRE\n:\nMiss Audrey Marie Tate Badge No. 58962\nThe following is for your information: Miss Tate called me by telephone and asked\nif she could request another physical for service with the Army Nurse gorps. She\nstated that her rejection was based on a congenital condition of the fifth lumbar\nvertebrae, which, until the Army examination, she did not know she had.\nI asked her if she had ever heard from the Navy Nurse Corps, as I understood her\nname had been referred to them following her Army rejection. She stated that she\nnever had any communication from them. Not being sure that her name and cre-\ndentials were at the Third Service Command, I told her I would call her back after\nasking your advice. This morning she told me that she was on a case for an Ortho-\npedist with whom she had discussed HAL previous rejection. He told her that she\nshould have been rejected and should not be accepted now as her disability could\neasily become a liability on an assignment. She is very much disappointed but\nstated that for the present she will abide by his advice and not ask for recon-\nsideration."
