Mrs. Elsbeth Vaughan, ssistant Director
January 9, 1926
Nursing Service, Midwestern Branch Office
Mi SS Ida F. Butler, Assistant to the
National Director, Nursing Service.
In reply to your letter of January 6th relative to the
Special enrollment of Miss Mary Taylor. I am attaching to
this
a copy of the letter we wrote on November 14, 1925, in reply
to your letter of November 11th. In the third paragraph of
this letter you will note that we have explained the subsequent
training Miss Taylor would have to take in order to meet the
requirements for general enrollment.
May I call to your attention that she is a graduate
of the Mercy Hospital Training School in Cadillac, Mich., which
during the period of her training only cared for a twenty-five
daily average number of patients. She had three months affilia-
tion in the Childrens' Free Hospital, Detroit, Mich., according
to her statement on the application blank, though the Superintendent
of Nurses made no note of that fact on the training school credential.
When she was granted Special enrollment she was not a
member of any nursing organisation and, therefore, not a member
of the American Nurses' Association. After graduation she did
private duty nursing and there is no record of her ever having
had a special course in Public Health Nursing.
While we appreciate the interest of the Chapter in Miss
Taylor and their anxiety that she may qualify for general enrollment,
It would not seem possible at this time to change her status until
she. had taken the post-graduate course. This I think answers your
letter of the 6th.
Ida F. Butler,
Assistant to the National Director,
Red Cross Nursing Service.
